University College London Hospitals (UCLH) would like to remind primary care colleagues that since May 2022 that NHS England (NHSE) has reinstated the national eligibility criteria for Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS). This means that only patients who meet the specified national criteria are entitled to this service.
In order for accurate information be provided to patients, GPs and practice staff are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria when advising patients to contact NEPTS.
NHS England » Non-emergency patient transport services eligibility criteria
Please note, most patients should travel to and from hospital independently by private or public transport, with the help of relatives or friends if necessary and NEPTS should only be considered essential when needed to ensure an individual’s safety, safe mobilisation, condition management or recovery.
