UCLH is a specialist centre for the psychological treatment of audiovestibular difficulties. In the Adult Psychology Service, we support of patients with a variety of conditions including clinics for tinnitus, misophonia, and insomnia.

We see over 1000 patients per year with referrals coming from specialist hospital consultants, GPs, hearing therapists, speech and language therapists and audiologists. We accept national wide external referrals from specialist hospital consultants and GPs.

The service provides evidence-based care for all the conditions it manages. It has strong research history with over 40 peer-reviewed publications and conducting experimental research on tinnitus. We contribute to national and international guidelines. Our approach is based on principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) and components of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

The service was pioneering in the use of mindfulness based cognitive therapy for tinnitus. Throughout the year we run an 8-week MBCT program to help with tinnitus distress. We also offer follow-up mindfulness meetings for those who have attended these courses.

Therapy is delivered face-to-face, video, and telephone depending on preference and availability.
