Term 01.09.23 to 31.08.26
I became a volunteer with the Trust in early 2022, after I retired from a career in family law, initially practising as a barrister and later as a District Judge of the Central Family Court. My voluntary role as a ‘befriender’ is ward based and patient focused. Although I may see only a snapshot of what happens on the ward, I believe I now have a fairly good insight into how patients experience care in the hospital. As the wife of a patient (my husband has been under the care of UCLH since 2007), I also have my own personal experience of life on the ward and in the waiting room. As with the patients I talk to, we have experienced both excellent care and sadly that which was not so good. I would like to use my term as a Governor to help improve some aspects of patient care, ensuring that patients obtain the maximum benefits from the treatment and also enabling them to feel consulted and fully involved with decision making in their medical care.
