Dr Sherron Furtado, a Senior Sarcoma Research Physiotherapist and the Lead on the Sarcoma Survivorship and Rehabilitation Research Programme at RNOH has been honoured with a Prestigious Award for “Physiotherapy excellence in a Foreign Country”. Dr Furtado received this award from the esteemed ISO recognised Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation (SIOR) and Sancheti Healthcare Academy (SHA) her Alma Mater; a state-of-the-art orthopaedic organisation based in India. This award was conferred to recognise Dr Sherron Furtado’s professional excellence in the field over several years; a few to highlight are being awarded a PhD in the field of musculoskeletal oncology, winning multiple national and international prizes and awards for her work, position as a board member/lead in national and international professional bodies and for more than a decade leading and working tirelessly on an innovative research programme in the field of rehabilitation and functional outcomes in musculoskeletal oncology to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors.

The process of decision to give the award is a rigorous objective process of selection due to a large pool of Physiotherapists across the globe. Dr Sherron Furtado won the award due to her exceptional professional accomplishments. This was awarded by Dr. K.H. Sancheti, a pioneer in the field of Orthopaedics and a recipient of several awards in India, the United Kingdom and America. Dr K.H Sancheti is the Founder, the Director and Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon of SIOR. Dr Sherron Furtado’s mother Mrs Nora Furtado was proud to receive this award on Sherron’s behalf, as the award ceremony was held in India, which Sherron was unable to attend due to her work in the UK. Dr Sherron Furtado says, “It’s an honour and an incredible moment in my career to receive this Physiotherapy Excellence Award from a Pioneer in the field of Orthopaedics and a globally recognised institution. I am very grateful to all my patients, fellow colleagues, clinical and academic teams I work with, because of them I am what I am today and without whom such a priceless recognition would not be possible.
