Stanmore Childrens Orthopaedic Outcome Project (SCOOP): Awarded Grant/Research Funding of £148,483.43
Mr Craig Gerrand (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon), Dr Sherron Furtado (Senior Sarcoma Research Therapist) and Professor Deborah Eastwood (Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon) from the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) have been successful in securing funding of £148,483.43 from the RNOH charity; to support an Outcomes-based research project in the Sarcoma and Paediatric Service.
This study “Stanmore Childrens Orthopaedic Outcome Project (SCOOP)” aims to capture functional outcomes and quality of life (QoL) issues, children face after orthopaedic surgery for bone or soft tissue tumours and other orthopaedic conditions.
SCOOP will utilise the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended holistic model of outcome assessment to capture physical disabilities and activity limitations children face after major orthopaedic surgery. The WHO model provides a unique opportunity to compile questionnaires and technology and capture novel person-centred outcomes in the hospital and patient’s homes. This important project will improve our understanding of poor outcomes and assist us in setting out evidence-based clinical guidelines for delivering better treatment and support packages for our patients.
