Treatment is needed if patients have bleeding symptoms or are undergoing invasive procedures (such as surgery) which could result in bleeding. A treatment plan will be made by the haematology team and often includes use of a drug called Tranexamic acid. Sometimes patients are given a drug called DDAVP or an infusion of clotting factors or platelets; these help correct the underlying problem and improve the ability of blood to clot.
The National Haemophilia Database
This database promotes the treatment of patients with bleeding disorders, by collecting information regarding patients’ condition and treatment.
UCLH patients having a bleeding disorder are invited to be registered on the National Haemophilia Database (NHD).
