Our cancer waiting times team processes, monitors and tracks all urgent, two-week wait, suspected cancer referrals from GPs. All appointments are carefully and systematically monitored to ensure a speedy and efficient patient journey through diagnosis and to the start of treatment, or discharge where appropriate.
Patients are seen by different specialists in different clinics dependent on the type of cancer that their GP suspects. All of these clinics are rapid-access and patients are always offered appointments within 14 days of receipt of referral.
Some services run 'one-stop clinics' providing diagnostic tests on the same day as the first appointment with the specialist. These include Breast, Gynaecology, Colorectal, Prostate and Head and Neck clinics. More information will be given to those patients booked to attend these clinics. (We ask clinicians to try to ensure that, wherever possible, the patient is available to be seen within the 14-day target.)

We receive tertiary referrals for diagnosed cancer from many hospitals. These are not managed by the cancer waiting times team however, and should be referred directly to the relevant cancer multi-disciplinary team.
For more information on how to refer to these teams, please refer to the individual service pages.
