UCLH is delighted that His Majesty King Charles III has accepted the patronages of University College Hospital and the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine.
UCLH has had a long and special relationship with the Royal Family. The King has visited our hospitals four times, most recently the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre in April 2024.
He also visited the cancer centre in 2013, the year after it opened, and officially opened the University College Hospital Grafton Way Building in 2022. He also opened the newly refurbished Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine in 2005.
UCLH chief executive David Probert said: “We are deeply honoured that His Majesty has accepted the patronages of University College Hospital and the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine.
“Last week King Charles and Queen Camilla brought great joy to patients and staff at our Cancer Centre when they visited, and we look forward to continuing the special relationship UCLH has enjoyed with the Royal Family.
“The King’s patronages shine a light on the wonderful work our staff do every day to look after our patients and advance healthcare for people all over the world.”
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was Patron of University College Hospital and the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine until her death in 2022. She opened University College Hospital in 2005, and in one of her last major public engagements before the COVID-19 pandemic, she opened UCLH’s Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals in February 2020.
The announcement that the King will accept the patronages of University College Hospital and the Royal London Hospital for Integrated Medicine follows a review of Royal Patronages and coincides with the first anniversary of his coronation in May 2023.
