Professional background

Anthony Kupelian is a consultant obstetrician and yynaecologist, and accredited subspecialist in urogynaecology. He is clinical lead for the urogynaecology and pelvic floor Unit at University College London Hospitals (UCLH).

He has received advanced training in laparoscopic urogynaecological surgery but offers a broad range of surgical and non-surgical treatments for incontinence, prolapse and other pelvic floor problems.

Anthony completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Liverpool. He was awarded the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) with commendation in 1999. He undertook higher specialist training in North West London, followed by a subspecialty training fellowship in urogynaecology at UCLH. He was awarded membership of the Royal College of obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) with Presidential Letter of Merit in 2009.

Anthony was appointed as a senior research associate at University College London (UCL) in 2010. His research has examined the role of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the generation of chronic urinary symptoms. Anthony was awarded the degree of of doctor of philosophy (PhD) from UCL in recognition of this work and brings these research insights to his clinical practice.

Anthony runs a dedicated clinic for women with chronic and recurrent UTI. He also provides care for patients with multi-system pelvic symptoms. He is particularly interested in how infective, traumatic, hormonal, and neuropathic influences interact to drive symptoms, including pelvic pain. He works within a multidisciplinary team with colleagues from gynaecology, reconstructive urology, gastroenterology, colorectal surgery and pain medicine.

Anthony is a strong advocate of evidence-based, individualised, and patient-driven care.
