Professional background
Dr Hurel was educated in Jersey before graduating from Southampton University Medical School. After completion of the Northwick Park Medical Rotation and obtaining MRCP he moved to the north-east. Having worked as a Registrar in Middlesbrough and Newcastle he undertook studies on insulin signalling in muscle. In 1996 he obtained his PhD. On completion of specialist training he was appointed to the staff of UCLH and took up his post in November 1998. He now has a significant clinical practice and participates in research in Diabetes and Thyroid disease.
