Professional background
Dr Mannan was appointed consultant physician and geriatrician at UCLH in 2018. He studied medicine at Imperial College, London and completed his higher specialist training in geriatric and general internal medicine across North East and North Central London.
Dr Mannan has experience of managing acutely unwell older people admitted to hospital, through their hospital stay and diagnosing and treating older people with multiple, complex conditions in outpatient clinic. He specialises in orthogeriatrics (medical management of older people with hip fractures), care of older people undergoing surgery, including optimisation before surgery, management of medical complications following surgery, and rehabilitation.
Dr Mannan has completed a clinical fellowship in leadership and has a strong focus on quality improvement. He has extensive experience in undergraduate and postgraduate education and training. He is an honorary clinical lecturer for UCL Medical school, Royal College of Physicians MRCP PACES examiner and training programme director for general internal medicine in North West London.
