Professional background
Dr Satta began his medical training in Italy before coming to the UK to study at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He then undertook specialist training in both infectious diseases and microbiology and completed the majority of his UK training at the Royal Free Hospital. He was an academic fellow at University College London (UCL) where he completed a PhD on whole genome sequencing and its applications to new drugs development against mycobacterium tuberculosis.
He also holds an MBA in Healthcare with a thesis on the consolidation of pathology services in England, the diploma in tropical medicine (DTM&H) and he is board certified in infection and prevention control (CIC). Dr Satta is a fellow of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
He was first appointed as an NHS consultant in 2013 and he has worked at Imperial College Healthcare where he was the head of specialty for infection. He has joined UCLH in 2021 and he is also an honorary senior lecturer at UCL.

Dr Satta research interests include new drugs development against mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB), non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTMs), whole genome sequencing, multi-drug resistance and new rapid diagnostics.
