Professional background
I trained at the University of Birmingham Medical School, where I additionally completed an intercalated degree in Public Health and Epidemiology and went on to co-found a module, and subsequently an intercalated degree course, in Global Health. I began my specialist training in Infectious Diseases and General Internal Medicine in the West Midlands. Following completion of a Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Fellowship at the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, based in Guinea Bissau in West Africa, I completed my clinical training in London as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer. My research into the epidemiology and control of malaria and neglected Tropical Diseases in East and West Africa is ongoing.
I am an Associate Professor in Infectious Diseases at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and an Honorary Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, University College Hospital London.
