Professional background
Dr Yamamoto is a consultant neuroradiologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square.
He studied medicine at University College London and his general radiology training was on the Cambridge training programme based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. This was followed by subspecialist training in neuroradiology on the Pan-London neuroradiology fellowship.
During his radiology training he undertook an additional four year academic research fellowship at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology which culminated in a PhD in functional neuroimaging.
He practises diagnostic neuroradiology with subspecialist areas of expertise which include movement disorders, pituitary diseases, neuro-oncology and transcranial doppler.
Dr Yamamoto holds membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) and fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR).

Research interests
Dr Yamamoto undertakes research within the Neuroradiological Academic Unit, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology where his interests are in functional neuroimaging and the imaging of movement disorders.
His PhD research was focused on the application of advanced MRI to the investigation of the effect of brain tumours on language and sensorimotor function and he has particular expertise in functional MRI (fMRI). He is lecturer and examiner on the advanced neuroimaging MSc degree at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology.
He has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and book chapters on clinical neuroradiology and functional neuroimaging and has been the recipient of research funding in neuro-oncology from the Royal College of Radiologists.
