Our academic partner UCL has been placed seventh globally for medicine, fourth globally for pharmacy and pharmacology and first for education in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 – the world’s most consulted university ranking.
More than half of UCL’s subjects were ranked higher compared to last year, with medicine up 2 places from 2021 and pharmacy and pharmacology up 3 places.
UCL is number 1 in education for the ninth year in a row. In a broad field of Life Sciences and Medicine UCL ranked eighth globally.
The rankings are based on metrics including research performance and graduate employability.
A large proportion of the research output of UCL is in clinical research, based on a close partnership between UCLH and UCL which is underpinned by the Biomedical Research Centre at UCLH and UCL.
Prof Bryan Williams, Director of Research at UCLH and Chair of Medicine at UCL, said: “It is fantastic to see UCL perform so well across subject areas including medicine, the life sciences, pharmacy and education. UCL consistently ranks among the top institutions in the world which reflects the talent and expertise among colleagues here in London. I am proud of the clinical research partnership we have at UCLH and UCL where we have become leaders in translating fundamental science into clinical research that ultimately changes and saves lives.”
A total of 1,542 universities in 161 locations across the world were ranked across 51 academic disciplines.
The QS World University Rankings, which rank universities overall rather than at subject level, will be published later this year. The last edition of these rankings placed UCL at joint eighth in the world.
