Prime Minister visits UCLH vaccination centre

Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited the vaccination centre at the Islington Business Design Centre yesterday. 

In March, UCLH partnered with the BDC to convert the large exhibition hall into a vaccination centre, with private booths where people are consented and then vaccinated.  

Prime Minister paid tribute to the efforts of the different teams involved in the vaccination effort and encouraged everyone to come forward for their jab. 

During his visit he met people being vaccinated and vaccinators, including Thobekile (Kelly) Ncube, a lecturer from Middlesex University who is training vaccinators at NCL centres. Middlesex University, led by Fiona Suthers, head of clinical skills and education, have trained and educated the vaccinators across north central London.

He was shown round by Assistant Chief Nurse Betty Wynne who is the UCLH clinical lead for the vaccination programme. He also met Acting CEO Tim Jaggard and Chair, Baroness Neuberger.

Betty Wynne said: “I am extremely proud of the north central London vaccination programme and UCLH’s role within it. It was a pleasure to showcase our services to the Prime Minster”.

Tim Jaggard said: “During the visit we demonstrated the #oneteam approach, with volunteers, bank staff, health professionals from UCLH and Middlesex University all working together with the Business Design Centre to make sure as many people as possible can be vaccinated. Thank you to everyone involved for delivering such a great service.”
