First place for UCLH in European Healthcare Design Awards

The team behind the art work in the new University College Hospital Grafton Way Building have been awarded first place in the Interior Design and Arts category at the 2021 European Healthcare Design Awards.

Working together, the UCLH arts and heritage team and Scott Tallon Walker Architects in association with Edward Williams Architects developed integrated and site specific artworks, made possible with the support and generosity of funders including UCLH Charity and Haematology Cancer Care.  

The commissioned artworks include a large scale installation in the atrium, bespoke artist designs for patient bedrooms, staff areas and critical care department, sculpture for the garden areas, backlit stained and fused glass artwork, and digital interactive artwork in the proton beam therapy areas.

The award was given to this team to in recognition of the exceptional skill in creating a compassionate healthcare environment that reflects and communicates the values of the healthcare provider through the integrated application of interior design with the visual arts.
